FAQ’s

Why choose ISR?

ISR teaches swimming and floating exactly how children learn.  What we do is not traditional swim lessons.  We use the behavioral sciences: sensorimotor learning, schedules of reinforcement, positive reinforcement, operant conditioning, one-on-one student lead lessons for your child. This truly is what sets us apart from other swim lessons. WE TEACH HOW YOUR CHILD LEARNS and each lesson is tailored to your child’s ability and skill level every day.

What makes you different from other programs?

At ISR we place an emphasis on safety before, during and after lessons.

What are your qualifications?

Each certified ISR instructor completes a rigorous, 8-week in-water and academic training course and participates in a highly specialized annual recertification to maintain the highest level of safety and caliber of instruction.

Will my child learn to swim during lessons?

Our program does focus on survival swim, but children who can walk (generally one year of age and older) will learn to swim during lessons!

Why are lessons only 10 minutes?

The lessons are 10 minutes long to support the principles of sensorimotor learning and to reduce physical fatigue. Imagine running for 10 minutes in a row when you have never done it before.

Why are lessons 5 days a week for 6-8 weeks?

Research shows that short, more frequent lessons result in higher retention. Most children have fairly short attention spans and will not be able to focus on the task for longer and we want to take advantage of the best time for learning. Consistency is the key to the success of your child during lessons.

Do I get in the pool with my child?

These lessons are one-on-one, with your child and Leah in the pool. Parents are invited into the pool during the last few days of lessons, usually on a Friday, to learn some tips on keeping ISR skills strong and to have some play time with the kids as the session comes to a close.

Is the ISR Registration fee and the Lesson Deposit fee the same thing? Why Not?

The registration fee pays for the highly-trained medical team at ISR Central to review every application prior to approval. This payment ($105 yearly fee or $35 renewal) goes directly to ISR Central and ensures a safe session for all students.

The deposit is a non-refundable payment that hold your spot in the session. This is paid directly to Leah and is applied to your first week of lessons. Tuition is due weekly.

*Please note your spot cannot be held until both the registration and deposit fee have been paid.

What if I have two or more kids? Can I schedule them together?

Yes! Siblings are scheduled in back-to-back lessons.

Parents usually sit poolside with one child while the first one swims, and then help the first student change back into their clothes on the pool deck while the second student swims. It can sound overwhelming to do lessons with more than one child but Leah teaches LOTS of siblings and everyone finds their own routine during the first week.

What if we are going to be late for lessons?

Your child’s lesson time reflects the time they need to get in the pool, no the time you need to arrive.

As lessons are brief, it is important to arrive early enough to get your child changed and ready to go before the lesson start time. This will keep everyone on schedule as well as keeping the environment as relaxing as possible for all.

If you are more than 10 minutes late for your lesson, your child may not be able to swim that day. Every effort will be made to get your kiddo in the pool, but as lesson times are so brief, even a 10-minute delay can throw off the entire schedule.

Please text Leah as soon as you know you will be late so she can try to accommodate you!

What if we need to miss lessons for vacation, illness, or another reason?

Registering for a session of ISR lessons is a 6-week commitment. You will be expected to pay for the week even if your child must miss lessons. This is due to the fact that once your child is scheduled, the spot is considered filled for the entire session and can not be used by another student even if your child misses lessons throughout the session.

Lessons may be canceled at the instructor’s discretion due to inclement weather or instructor illness. Lessons may be canceled due to thunder or lightning as stated by ISR’s safety protocols. If the instructor is ill, you will be credited or the lesson time will be made up. If canceled for weather, 2 bad weather days will be credited per session.
